The Nizam was very anxious to become independent and had been the ambition of Nizam to ensure the domain status of his state. He tried to achieve this ambitious desire with the help of Khasim Razvi of Ittehadul Muslimeen and assault troops, the Razakars.

The Government of India tried to persuade the Nizam to sign the instrument of accession with India. After tortuous negotiations, the Nizam finally entered a "Stand Still" on November 29, 1947, with India for a year to maintain the status quo.
This agreement provided for the Nizam to buy time to buy military equipment from around the world and smuggle them into Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the Nizam sent a delegation to the United Nations organization to refer the Hyderabad case to the Security Council.
With the increasing violence of the Razakars and Nizam attempts to get himself independent, the Government of India decided to curb these trends by launching a 'police action' against the Nizam. The Indian army, led by Major General JNChaudhuri entered the state of the five senses and military action was a brilliant success. The September 18, 1948, the forces of Nizam surrendered to Indian army and Mir Ali Laik, Prime Minister of the Nizam, and Khasim Razvi were arrested. On 23 September, the Nizam withdrew his complaint to the Security Council. The fusion of the domains of Hyderabad in India was announced in the Union. Maj. Gen. JNChaudhuri took over as military governor of Hyderabad and stayed in that position until the end of 1949. In January 1950, MKVellodi, a senior official was Prime Minister of the State and the Nizam was appointed "Raj Pramukh '. After the 1952 general elections, the first popular ministry headed by B.Rama Krishna Rao took over the state.
